In recognition of his many fundamental and practical contributions to nonferrous metallurgy, especially the physical metallurgy of titanium and its alloys.

Dr. Robert I. Jaffee, is Senior Technical Advisor with Materials Support Group, Research and Development Staff, at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in Palo Alto, California. Dr. Jaffee holds a B.S. degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, an S.M. degree from Harvard University and a Ph. D. degree from the University of Maryland. Before joining EPRI in 1974, Dr. Jaffee spent 32 years with the Columbia Laboratories of Battelle Memorial Institute, where he was Chief Materials Scientist. Dr. Jaffee is also currently a Consulting Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University. Dr. Jaffee's current concerns include material problems in alloy design, rotor forgings, low-pressure steam turbine blading and materials for advanced fossil steam plants. He has authored or co-authored 22 books, several hundred papers and articles and holds 45 U.S. patents.
