2025

For her exemplary achievement in non-ferrous metallurgy, especially for the beneficiation of ores, and distinguishing herself as a practitioner in the art and science of mineral beneficiation.

Dr. Kathleen (Kathy) Altman has over 40 years of diverse experience in the mining industry as a process/metallurgical engineer, manager, administrator, researcher, and teacher. She has worked for operating companies, engineering design companies, consulting companies, and in academic and research positions, completing projects and engineering designs for a wide range of projects. Her broad base of experience working with multi-disciplinary teams concentrated on the economic outcomes of mining projects. The research conducted for her doctoral dissertation focused on selecting an optimum number of geologically, mineralogically, and spatially representative metallurgical samples. Representative samples are used to complete testing programs that accurately predict the performance of processing plants over the life of the mine. Kathy’s work demonstrates her exceptional abilities for designing metallurgical test programs, optimum process development, and accurate evaluation of the data generated, working in cooperation with mining engineers, geologists, and geological engineers, and other disciplines relevant to mining projects.
