John P. Hager (TMS)

For seminal contributions to thermochemistry and metallurgy that have advanced the extraction and recycling of non-ferrous metals.

John P. Hager is Hazen professor of extractive metallurgy and director of the Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy at Colorado School of Mines. He served as the founding chairman of the TMS committee on Waste Treatment and Minimization and was a co-chairman of the TMS Conferences on Extraction and Processing for the Treatment and Minimization of Wastes and the GlobalSymposium on Recycling, Waste Treatment and Clean Technology (REWAS '99). He also served as a vice-chair of the TMS 2002 International Conference in Lulea, Sweden, on Recycling and Waste Treatment in Mineral and Metal Processing.

Dr. Hager served two terms on the TMS Board of Directors and is the immediate past chairman of the Extraction and Processing Division of TMS. He received his BS degree from Montana Tech and was the recipient of their Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001. He received his MS degree from the University of Missouri at Rolla and his Doctorate from MIT. Dr. Hager has been a member of the faculty at Colorado School of Mines since 1965 and was the recipient in 1998 of the Dean's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Research.
