J. Brent Hiskey is Director of the Arizona Mining and Mineral Resources Research Institute and Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona. He joined the University of Arizona in 1984. Prior to that he was Manager of Metallurgical Research at Kennecott's Process Technology Center. A graduate of the University of Utah. Dr. Hiskey received his B.S. in Metallurgical Engineering in 1967. He earned an M.S in 1971 and a Ph.D. in 1973, both in Metallurgy. He has held industrial research positions with U.S. Steel and ALCOA in Pittsburgh and was an Assistant Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.
Dr. Hiskey's research interests are in the general area of hydrometallurgy with special interest in the electrochemical nature of leaching reactions especially the electrochemistry of semiconducting ore minerals. His research activities include the leaching and recovery of copper and precious metals, with emphasis on the heap leaching of precious metals, and dump and in situ leaching of copper. Dr. Hiskey is the recipient of the SME Arthur F. Taggart Award and several book publishing awards.
