James P. Brill (SPE)

Dr. James P. Brill joined the Petroleum Engineering faculty at The University of Tulsa in 1966 and founded the Fluid Flow Projects (1973) and Paraffin Deposition Projects (1994) research consortia. He resigned his faculty position in 2000 and currently serves as a consultant to these consortia and the Decision Review Board for Chevrons Tulsa University Center of Research Excellence. He has served as a consultant to many oil and gas companies on multiphase flow in pipes and taught related short courses in 15 countries. He has over 100 publications, many appearing in SPE Journals and is co-author of the SPE Monograph Multiphase Flow in Wells. Dr. Brill represented SPE in ABET positions (1989-2000). He previously received the SPE Production Engineering Award, Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty, John Franklin Carll Award, DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal, ASME Fellow, and was inducted into the Oklahoma Higher Education Hall of Fame and the National Academy of Engineering (1997). Dr. Brill holds a BS degree in Engineering from the University of Minnesota (1962) and a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (1966).
