For his distinguished accomplishments in research, involving petroleum reservoir performance and remediation of aquifers, supervision of some 31 research associates and service on many SPE and industry committees and councils.

Professor Gary A. Pope holds the Texaco Centennial Chair in Petroleum Engineering and is the Director of the Center for Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously he worked in production research at Shell Development Company from 1971 to 1976. His teaching and research are in the areas of enhanced oil recovery, reservoir engineering, natural gas engineering, environmental engineering, reservoir simulation, CO2 sequestration, characterization of reservoirs and aquifers, and groundwater modeling and remediation. He earned a Ph.D. from Rice University and a B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University, both in Chemical Engineering.
