Edmund C. Babson (SPE)

For exceptional foresight as one of the architects of an international petroleum engineering organization; for active participation over five decades in SPE and AIME programs; and for technical contributions to oil and gas reserve evaluations, especially for secondary and tertiary recovery projects.

Edmund C. Babson has been a partner in the engineering firm of Babson and Sheppard since 1978. A graduate of Stanford University, he holds a B.A. in Engineering and a degree in Metallurgical Engineering.

Mr. Babson worked for Union oil Co. of California for 30 years, starting as a Research Chemist in 1934 and leaving as Manager of Foreign Operations in 1963. He later worked as an Independent consultant, a partner in Babson and Burns, and as Vice President and Treasurer of Merrill, Ogle, Babson & Wallis Inc. He Is a registered Petroleum Engineer in the states of California and Oregon.

A long-time member of AIME and the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Mr. Babson has served on the Boards of both AIME and SPE, as AIME Vice President, and as the Los Angeles Basin Section Chairman. In 1976-77 he was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer. He also helped develop the SPE-AAPG "Standards Pertaining to the Estimation and Auditing of Oil and Gas Reserves." In 1984 Mr. Babson received the -SPE DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal. He is a member of a number of professional organizations including the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers, the American Petroleum Institute, and the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
