Dr. Fernando Samaniego-Verduzco (SPE)

Dr. Samaniego-Verduzco is a Professor of Petroleum Engineering at the Graduate School of Engineering, National University of Mexico. From June 1979 to August 2001 he worked in reserve evaluation, reservoir characterization and numerical simulation of major oil fields. He has also been Superintendent of Planning and Application of Advanced Technology. From June 1978 to May 1979, he was coordinator of the Geothermal Reservoir Engineering Project at the Electric Research Institute. At the Mexican Petroleum Institute, he was a research engineer and head of the Mathematical Models Department at the Division of Special Studies from March 1975 to May 1978 and in the Production Division from January to June 1971. He was President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Mexico Section in 1991, is a member of the Mexican Academy of Engineering and Mexican Academy of Sciences, and is a Foreign Associate of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). He has won several awards for his writing (published 190 studies), as well as the Kapitza Gold Medal of Honor from the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 1996, the National University of Mexico Research Award in 1999, and the SPE Lester C. Uren Award in 2004. He was selected as an SPE Distinguished Member in 1996.
