Michael A. Trevits (SME)

Michael A. Trevits, PG, has been working in the mining industry for more than 48 years. He is the President of Xtraction Science and Technology, Inc. (XS&T), which he started in 2014. XS&T provides extractive energy sector consulting services and develops novel safety technologies. He is also President of the Rebuilding Their Future Foundation, Inc., and MBBB Innovations, LLC. In 2014, he left government work after 39½ years of service with the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Department of Energy, and NIOSH, where he addressed a wide range of safety and health mining problems and issues. Besides his ongoing consulting work, his current research is focused on the production of mine safety training materials and videos and, recently, on the development of an intrinsically safe downhole camera probe. Michael is very active in SME and is a Distinguished Fellow of SME and the Pittsburgh Section. He holds an undergraduate degree in Geology and an MBA, both from the University of Pittsburgh, and is a Registered Professional Geologist in North Carolina.
