In recognition of the many contributions, knowledge and service to the ideals and purposes of the Society

Kim Morrison is the Senior Director, Global Tailings Management, at the corporate headquarters of Newmont where she is responsible for functional oversight of tailings and dams at Newmont’s global operations. This includes review and development of standards and guidelines; overseeing governance programs; providing peer reviews; and overseeing training and development programs.

She serves as the founding chair of SME’s Tailings & Mine Waste Committee, editor of SME’s Tailings Management Handbook: A Lifecycle Approach (to published Q1 2022), and a member of SME’s Responsible Mining & Underground Construction Strategic Committee.  She is also an active member of ICMM’s Tailings Working Group, serves on the Advisory Board for the Tailings and Industrial Waste Engineering Center (TAILENG) and on the Advisory Board for EduMine.

Kim was named to the 2020 edition of the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining (WIM100) and, in 2021, received the SME’s President’s Citation for Individual Services.
