Jeff Gillow (SME)
AIME Environmental Stewardship Distinguished Service Award in
2020
Jeff is an environmental scientist with 30 years of experience in evaluating the environmental footprint of mining and milling operations, with an emphasis on developing strategies for source and migration control of metals and radionuclides in groundwater and surface water. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines, and was a research chemist for the US Department of Energy for 17 years where he studied the mechanisms of dissolution and attenuation of constituents in the mine environment. Here he learned the importance of understanding the chemical speciation of inorganics in environmental systems as the basis for solving difficult problems. Jeff is currently a consultant, engaged in geochemical investigations and advancing innovative environmental approaches for operating mines and those in reclamation.
