Mohsen Seifi

Mohsen Seifi joined Case Western Reserve University in January 2011 as a graduate student in the Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Reliability Center (AMMRC) under the direction of Prof. John J. Lewandowski, Arthur Armington Professor of Engineering II. His MS and PhD work on naval Al-Mg alloys, supported by ONR, is defining the effects of long-term thermal exposures on their fracture and fatigue behavior. In addition, he has conducted fracture and fatigue work in the AMMRC on next generation Titanium Aluminide, Nickel Tantalum high density metallic glasses, and Ti-6Al-4V made by electron beam additive manufacturing techniques. The latter is supported by America Makes/NAMII as part of a team of 5 Universities, 5 Companies, and 2 Government laboratories. He has been directly involved with monthly webinars associated with this project. As part of these various works he has also developed techniques to remotely monitor and control various testing machines from afar. He joined ASTM international as a student member in 2011 and attended bi-annual meetings from 2012 to present. He joined TMS on 2009 and attended its annual meetings every year. He has co-authored various publications and has more than 12 public presentations at various technical meetings while also receiving various technical society honors and awards. He is also recipient of 2014 ASTM international Scholarship (Prestigious ASTM society award for graduate students) in amount of $10,000. Outside TMS, Mohsen is also a member of The American Society for Materials Testing (ASTM), American Society for Materials (ASM International) and Materials Research Society (MRS).

Alexandra Anderson

Allie is a master’s student in the Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy at the Colorado School of Mines. She is currently being advised by Dr. Brajendra Mishra on a research project that is focused on rare earth metal reduction. She received her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Gonzaga University where she graduated magna cum laude. During her bachelor’s degree, she worked as an undergraduate research assistant on a project that explored the mechanical properties of hydrogen exposed stainless steel. She is a member of both Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and Alpha Sigma nu, the Jesuit honors society. She has also been the recipient of a Gonzaga Regent scholarship, a Walter A Toly scholarship and a Kaiser Aluminum scholarship. Outside of academics, she is an outdoor recreation enthusiast and has very much enjoyed exploring Colorado’s beautiful landscape. Upon graduation, Allie plans to pursue a career at a mining operation where she can work as a metallurgist.
