Karem Tello. I would like to thank TMS and the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers (AIME) for awarding me the Henry DeWitt Smith Scholarship and for supporting my continuing education. Words cannot express my gratitude and honor for receiving this scholarship and I will do my very best to make the scholarship committee proud as I strive to represent the ideals of Mr. Smith in my pursuit of a PhD that will allow me to contribute to the mining and materials industries.

Mengtao Xie. It is my great honor to receive this scholarship as a graduate student. I have always been trying my best to seize every opportunity in my life. This award is not only recognition of my achievement in materials science as a graduate student, but also reward for my positive attitude for life. Materials Advantage offers me great opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities and definitely helps me get ready for my career as a materials engineer.
