T. Peter Philip was elected president and chief operating officer of Newmont Mining on October 30, 1991, having served as senior vice president since 1985. He is also president and chief operating officer of Newmont Mining's 90.1 percent subsidiary, Newmont Gold Company.
A native of South Africa, Mr. Philip received a BS degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Arizona. In 1958 he joined Newmont's subsidiary, O'okiep Copper Limited in South Africa, eventually becoming general manager of O'okiep. Subsequently he was executive vice president and general manager of Carlin Gold Company, which became Newmont Gold Company in 1986.
