William Joost (TMS)

AIME Rossiter W. Raymond Memorial Award in
2016

For the paper "Reducing Vehicle Weight and Improving U.S. Energy Efficiency Using Integrated Computational Materials Engineering"

Will Joost joined the Vehicle Technologies Office at the U.S. Department of Energy in 2010 as a Materials Engineer and Technology Development Manager for lightweight materials. He is primarily focused on the development of automotive metals and joining technologies, managing projects at the National Labs, with industry, and in academia. Will’s research interests center on the application of atomistic and continuum computational techniques towards the development and deployment of advanced materials. As a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Will investigates dislocation processes during plastic deformation while developing code and techniques for mesoscale modeling of crystalline materials. Previously, he worked as a Process Engineer at a specialty metals foundry in Arizona establishing processes for casting and hot rolling precious metal alloys and magnetic materials. Will holds a B.S. in Materials Engineering from RPI, a M.S. in Materials Science & Engineering from Arizona State University, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Maryland.
