John F. Breedis received a BS degree in metallurgical engineering in 1956 from New York University, and Master of Engineering and Doctor of Engineering degrees in metallurgy from Yale University in 1957 and 1961.

For one year he worked as a research associate in the Department of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Illinois, and in 1961 he joined the staff of the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia as a senior research metallurgist. He has held his present position as assistant professor of metallurgy at MIT since 1964.

In addition to teaching and research, Breedis supervises the Central Microscopy Facility. His paper was presented at the 1963 Metallurgical Society Fall Meeting in Cleveland and was published in the December, 1964, Transactions of The Metallurgical Society.
