J. Hall Carpenter (SME)

"In recognition of his continuous ingenious exercise of judgment and technical skill in the successful development of electromagnetic equipment for the mineral industry."

J. Hall Carpenter is president and chairman of the hoard of Carpco Research and Engineering Corporation. He has headed his own company for twenty years and, during that time, has established subsidiaries in the Far East.

Mr. Carpenter holds a B.S. and is a licensed mining engineer in the state of Florida. He studied ceramic engineering at Alfred University and electronic engineering at Cornell University.

From 1941 to 1943 Mr. Carpenter was in charge of industrial instrumentation at Titanium Alloy Manufacturing Company. He joined Rutile Mining Company in 1943 as technical superintendent in charge of construction and operation. From 1946 to 1948 he served as a consulting engineer to Humphreys Gold Corporation and E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. At this time he designed the dry separation plants that produce titanium and zirconium minerals for Dupont from the Trail Ridge Deposits at Starke, Florida.

In addition to his position as president and chairman of the board of Carpco Research and Engineering, Inc., Mr. Carpenter is also president of Sea Mach, Inc., and chairman of Carpco Hong Kong, Ltd., Carpco Australiasia Pty. Ltd. and Carpco Malaysia Sendirian Berhad. Carpco has received the United States Government Presidential "E" Award for its contributions to the expansion of foreign trade.
