Robert S. Schechter (SPE)

Robert S. Schechter is currently professor emeritus in both the departments of chemical engineering and petroleum & geosystems engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Schechter has spent his entire professional career at The University of Texas. He received a BS in chemical engineering from Texas A&M University and his PhD from the University of Minnesota.

He and his collaborators have contributed to the understanding of microemulsion stability, geochemical modeling, and surfactant/mineral interactions, all with application to improved oil production methods. This research has resulted in the publication of 184 refereed articles, 26 book chapters. and the development of two commercial instruments. He has also authored or co-authored five books and edited two others.

In recognition of his research, Dr. Schechter has received a number of university awards. He is also the recipient of numerous professional society awards, including the John Franklin Carll Award of SPE and the ASEE Senior Research Award. He has been named to the Palmes Academic by the Prime Minister of France, to the National Academy of Engineering, and is a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
