Robert Louis Whiting is Professor and Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Texas A&M University, and Director of the Texas Petroleum Research Committee.
Professor Whiting is a recognized specialist in energy resource discovery and exploitation. In these areas he has served on committees and as a consultant to over fifty Federal, state and foreign governments and independent petroleum companies. He is the author of thirty technical and professional papers, as well as two books. Professor Whiting has been particularly active in the area of continuing education, where he has given courses attended by over 3,000 petroleum industry personnel during the past fifteen years.
Professor Whiting is a former Distinguished Lecturer for the Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME, and is currently serving as the AIME Representative on the Board of Directors of the Engineers Council for Professional Development. He has also served as past chairman of AIME and SPE-AIME education, accreditation, professionalism and energy committees.
