Helmut Merklein is Principal, Merklein & Associates. His areas of specialty include international energy policy, planning and analysis; energy market restructuring, deregulation and privatization; mineral concession system; energy information systems; oil and gas reserve assessment and oil and gas economics. He has a BS in petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma, an MBA from the University of Dallas and a PhD in economics from Texas A&M University.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Merklein spent 7 years with the US Department of Energy as Administrator, Energy Information Administration (EIA). a Presidential appointment with Senate confirmation; 12 years of university teaching including Professor and Dean, Graduate School of Management, University of Dallas; three years with an international reservoir engineering consulting firm and six years with an integrated oil company as an oil and gas reserve analyst and production engineer.
He is the author of 3 books, more than 100 articles on mineral economics-oil and gas and general economics-macro and international.
