Larry N. Fletcher (AIST)

Larry N. Fletcher is Supervising Metallurgist at the Ashland Works of Armco Steel Corporation, in the company's Ashland, Kentucky plant. He received his B.S. in chemical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1962.
After graduating from VPI, Mr. Fletcher served with the United States Air Force Air Weather Service as a meteorologist for three years, the first of which was spent studying the subject at New York University. He was then assigned to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as Chief Weatherman.
Mr. Fletcher joined Armco in 1965 as a Metallurgical Assistant and was assigned to the open hearth section. He moved to the blast furnace section in 1967, where he advanced to the position of Senior Metallurgist. In 1976, he was promoted to Supervising Metallurgist, and assigned to the iron, steel and primary rolling area, a position he still holds.
Mr. Fletcher is a member of the Iron and Steel Society of AIME.
