Dale E. Heinz joined LTV Steel in 1974 after graduating from Bowling Green State University with a degree in Education. He advanced to his present position of General Supervisor Furnace Operations in the Iron Producing Department of LTV Steel's Cleveland, OH, Works after holding a number of supervisory positions in the department. He was instrumental in developing the teamwork needed to allow the Cleveland No. 6 furnace to establish a weekly productivity in excess of 9 tons per 100 cubic feet of working volume and a monthly mark of 8.53 tons per 100 cubic feet. This mark was accomplished through an unprecedented high natural gas injection (220 lbs./nt). high oxygen injection (10 percent) operation on a single taphole furnace: this operation involved all facets of blast furnace operation, from charging techniques to cast-house practices. He is currently studying for his Master's of Business Administration at Baldwin-Wallace College.
