Clarence Taylor Marshall was born in Dunbar, Pa., in 1926. He received a B.S. from the University of Virginia and later did graduate work in chemistry and mining at the University of Pittsburgh. A World War II Air Force veteran, he served as a B-29 Flight Engineer in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.
Beginning in 1950, Mr. Marshall served successively a, Practice Engineer, Supervisor of Raw Materials, Assistant Plant Manager, and General Manager of the Coke & Iron Division of Pittsburgh Coke and Chemical Co. In 1958 he was elected Vice-President, retaining the position of General Manager. Mr. Marshall represents the fourth generation of his family serving in the merchant pig iron and ferromanganese industry.
A Member of AIME since 1951, he has been active in the affairs of the Blast Furnace, Coke Oven, and Raw Materials Committee. He was a Director of The Metallurgical Society of AIME in 1957 and Chairman of the Jounrnal of Metals Award Committee in 1958.
Mr. Marshall was recently a member of a technical delegation named by the U. S. Department of State to study the coke, iron, and steel industry in Poland. He has made substantial contributions to merchant blast furnace practice, ferromanganese production, and stream and air pollution abatement.
