W. Barney Gogarty (SPE)

W. Barney Gogarty, a consultant in the areas of reservoir engineering, EOR, and management, is recognized for his contributions in reservoir engineering as related to the field of oil recovery techniques. Gogarty holds more than 139 patents, has published 36 technical papers, and is one of the inventors of the MarafloodTM oil recovery process. Before becoming a consultant, Gogarty spent more than 26 years with Marathon Oil Co. At Marathon, Gogarty advanced through numerous research scientist positions and retired in 1986 as the Assoc. Research Director of Production at the company’s Denver Research Center. Gogarty, who was elected to the U.S. Natl. Academy of Engineering in 1990, was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer during 1982–83 and a member of the SPE Board of Directors during 1989–90. He received the SPE Lester C. Uren Award in 1987. Gogarty’s Society activities also include service on the Uren, Textbook, and Monograph committees. Gogarty holds a PhD degree in chemical engineering from the University of Utah.
