Jack J. Reynolds (SPE)

AIME DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal in
1979

In recognition of the high standards of professionalism that he has both practiced and championed for petroleum engineers over a period of more than 40 years; for the integrity he exemplifies in his professional and community life; and for his role in framing operating agreements between industry and government that have become patterns of North Sea operations.

Jack J. Reynolds is former chairman and managing director of Continental Oil Company, Ltd., a position he left in 1978. He is now an independent consultant.

Mr. Reynolds holds a degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas. He has also done post graduate work at Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Beginning his career with Conoco, Inc. in 1948, as a petroleum engineer Mr. Reynolds held various positions with the company in both Oklahoma and Texas, before being promoted to director of production for Conoco, Ltd. in 1969. In that position, he directed development of the Viking Gas Field, offshore of the British Isles. Mr. Reynolds joined the Society of Petroleum Engineers of AIME in 1940. Since then he has chaired numerous Society committees. He was program chairman of the 1964 Annual Meeting, and served on the SPE Board of Directors from 1974-76.

Mr. Reynolds is also an active member of the Institute of Petroleum and the American Petroleum Institute.
