Douglas C. Yearley

For his outstanding leadership in making Phelps Dodge the world's largest producer of copper processed using SX/electrowinning technology; and in the development of copper casting processes, including a technology that has since become the model for the production of continuous-cast copper rod.

Douglas C. Yearley is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Phelps Dodge Corporation. He joined Phelps Dodge in 1960 as director of research and has held several key management positions during his 38-year career with the company. He was named Chairman and CEO in 1989.

Mr. Yearley received a BS in metallurgical engineering from Cornell University in 1958 and attended the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School.

Mr. Yearley is active in a wide variety of civic and professional groups and serves on the boards of several business and charitable organizations. He is a member of the Policy Committee of the Business Roundtable, a member of The Business Council, Director of the Copper Development Association, Chairman of the International Copper Association, and Chairman of the National Mining Association.
