Stephen Moore Jenks was born in Port Huron, Michigan, in 1901. He graduated from Cornell University in 1923 with an M.E. degree. In 1925 he became associated with the American Sheet and Tin Plate Co., serving successively as Engineer, Fuel and Power Engineer, and Assistant Chief Engineer. In 1936 he joined the Carnegie Illinois Steel Corp., where he rose from Chief Engineer in Construction Division, Chief Engineer of Gary Works, Assistant General Superintendent, then General Superintendent at Gary; Manager of Operations, Chicago District; to Vice-President of Operations. In 1951 he was elected Vice-President of Manufacturing of U. S. Steel, becoming Assistant Executive Vice-President of Operations in 1953, which position he now holds.
In addition to his professional work, Mr. Jenks has been active with Boy Scouts of America, serving as President of the Allegheny Conference since January 1955. His home is in Coraopolis, PA.
