For his significant contributions to electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking, his commitment to sharing his metallurgical expertise, and his leadership in advancing the understanding of scrap quality and the use of intermediary raw materials in modern steel production. Jones’ practical knowledge of the steelmaking process and the value-in-use of direct reduced iron for smelting in the EAF has been instrumental in strengthening practices across the global steel industry.

Jeremy Jones has been training, advising and leading steel industry professionals from the shop floor level up to the boardroom for over 30 years. Currently the managing partner at CIX Inc., his previous roles include senior manager for Hatch Associates, various senior positions at Florida Steel, Nupro Corp. and Acutus Gladwin; technical authority for iron and steel at Bechtel Corp.; and vice president at Worley Parsons and Steel, Tenova Core and Transfield Services. Jones graduated from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ont., Canada, with a master’s degree in chemical engineering. He has published more than 100 technical papers and is the primary author for the EAF Steelmaking chapter in The Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel®. He has been an instructor for the AIST Modern Electric Furnace Steelmaking training seminar for nearly 30 years. In 2013, he was named an AIST Distinguished Member and Fellow in recognition of his tireless service to the association and the industry as a whole.
