J. Peter Gordon (AIST)

J. Peter Gordon is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Steel Company of Canada. He received his B. S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 1943, and in 1966, completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard.

After serving with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers during World War II, where he attained the rank of Captain, Mr. Gordon joined Stelco. From 1946 until 1963, when he was appointed Superintendent of the Cold Mill, Tin Mill and Galvanizing Department, he held a number of positions in Stelco's operating division. In 1964, he became General Superintendent, Flat Rolled Division, and the same year was appointed Vice PresidentManufacturing, Finishing and Tubular Plants. Two years later, he became Vice President, Operating Division, and in 1970 Senior Vice President, and was elected to Stelco's Board of Directors. Mr. Gordon was appointed President in 1971, Chief Executive Officer in 1973 and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1976.

Mr. Gordon is a director of Gulf Oil Canada, the American Iron and Steel Institute, the International Iron and Steel Institute and the Business Council on National Issues, and a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in England, and the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario. He is also a director of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews which honored him with its Human Relations Award in 1978.
