Mr. Pope is currently the Texaco Centennial Chair in Petroleum Engineering at The University of Texas, where he has held various positions since 1977. He also worked as a Senior Research Engineer at Shell Development Company from 1971-1976. He is a member of the Society of Petroluem Engineers (SPE), the American Chemical Society (ACS), the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), the National Academy of Engineering (1999), and Pi Epsilon Tau. He received the Halliburton Engineering Foundation Faculty Award in 1996, the SPE Distinguished Achievement Award in 1996, the SPE Distinguished Member Award in 1995, the SPE Reservoir Engineering Award in 1991, the GIGAFLOP Performance Award from Cray Research, Inc. in 1990, the Engineering Foundation Faculty Award in 1988, the J.H. Herring Centennial Professorship in Petroleum Engineering honor from 1984-1991, the Sun Exploration and Production Company Centennial Fellowship No. 1 in Petroleum Engineering from 1982-1984, and the Engineering Foundation Award in 1983.
