For pioneering work in Bakken reservoir characterization and exploitation which significantly contributed to the commercialization of the unconventional Bakken play; for spearheading innovations in fracturing fluid formulation, perforation design, methods for treating fissured formations, and methods for improving treatment distribution among lateral wellbores.

Dave Cramer is a senior engineering fellow on the ConocoPhillips global completions engineering staff in Houston, specializing in hydraulic fracturing applications. He previously worked for The Western Company of North America in various operational and technical positions (1977–1986) and BJ Services as technical manager for the Rocky Mountain region (1986–2017).

He is a registered professional engineer in Colorado, has published 76 technical papers, and holds three US patents. He was selected as an SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2003–2004 and 2021–2022. He served as the US/Canada Rocky Mountain Regional Director on the SPE International Board from 2004 to 2007. His industry recognitions include the 1993 SPE Denver Section Henry Mattson Technical Achievement Award, the 2011 SPE Completions Optimization and Technologies Award, the 2019 SPE Distinguished Member Award, and the 2020 SPE Cedric K. Ferguson Certificate.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics with high honors and departmental distinction from Rutgers College.
