On February 18, 2017, SME’s Washington, DC section and NoVA Mineral Club volunteers and National Mining Association staff manned an AIME booth at the Discover Engineering’s Family Day outreach for National Engineer’s Week. The event held from 10a-4:30p saw 6300 parents and their children come through to try their hand at science and engineering-related activities and gather information about scholarships and careers in the fields. The group had youth “mining” for minerals and learning where to find minerals in their house. Participants walked away with AIME “gold” pencils!
