AIME, SME, and TMS leadership attended the AAES/NAE Convocation, Banquet, and Engineering Public Policy Symposium in Washington, DC on April 24-25, 2017.  SME helped recruit Caterpillar speaker, Michael Murphy, who spoke on the use of automated vehicles in mining.  At the AAES awards banquet, SME member, Mary Poulton received the National Engineering Award for inspirational leadership and tireless devotion to the improvement of engineering education and to the advancement of the engineering profession, as well as to the development of sound public policies.  SME Past President, Jessica Kogel, received the Joan Hodges Queneau Palladiaum Medal for innovative solutions to environmental problems, respectively.  TMS member, Ainissa Ramirez, received the AAES Norm Augustine Award for engineering communications.  The next day, at the Engineering Public Policy Symposium on Capitol Hill, AIME President-Elect, John Speer, moderated speakers with divergent views on federal investment for engineering and science to spur innovation, productivity, and competitiveness.  Finally, AIME leadership attended the AAES General Assembly where they presented an update on the Engineering Competency Model work and promoted the Emerging Leaders Alliance.
