A Broad Cast to Mold the Future: Who is RFG2018 For?

RFG2018 anticipates attracting over 4,000 participants to Vancouver, BC from June 16-21, 2018. But who exactly IS RFG2018 for? General Chair Dr. John Thompson explains just who RFG2018 hopes to attract.

The Conference is for anyone who worries about resources, fundamentally. That includes technical people, scientists, geoscientists, and engineers, who think about the earth, the finite nature of it, and where resources are going to come from. And its for the people who currently work in delivering resources and worry about how to do that in a sustainable way.

Its not just the practical people involved in the technical part of the issue; it’s the broader societal people who care.

But the conference is much bigger than that. Its not just the practical people involved in the technical part of the issue; it’s the broader societal people who care. So that’s people who live in and around resources communities, First Nations and Indigenous people, its governments who have to regulate and make sure things are done properly but also need to make sure that resource extraction benefits the broader economy as well as the local economy.

And it’s the users; at the end of the day the people who use all the resources, the drivers of cars, the builders of planes, the developers of the latest device you are going to carry around, the personal communication device or video screen or whatever it may be that uses lots of raw materials and resources. Those are the people we need to attract to the conference.
