Russel B. Caples
Russel B. Caples was born in Glasgow, Mo. in 1888. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mining Engineering in 1910 and, in 1948, an honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering from Missouri School of Mines. Following graduation, after a brief period with the Federal Mining and Smelting Co., Mr. Caples worked in the Testing and Research Departments and the general laboratories of Anaconda Reduction Works until 1914. During this period he collaborated with Frederick Laist and F. F. Frick in the development of the electrolytic zinc process. Following progressive promotions, Mr. Caples, in 1941, became Manager of the Great Falls Reduction Department of The Anaconda Company and, under his direction, the operations in that department and the zinc operations of The Anaconda Company have been continually improved. In 1953 he was transferred to the New York Office of The Anaconda Company as President of Anaconda Aluminum Company, and, in 1955, was made Vice-President, in Charge of Metallurgical Operations, of all The Anaconda Company's properties. Mr. Caples is a Director of many organizations including AIME of which he has been an active Member since 1913.
