Robert E. Murray
Robert E. Murray is the owner of a number of private coal mining, sales and transloading companies. These facilities comprise one of the largest underground coal mining operations in the US. The companies controlled by Mr. Murray include The Ohio Valley Coal Company; Maple Creek Mining, Inc.; Energy Resources, Inc. and TDK Coal Sales, Inc.; KenAmerican Resources, Inc.; The American Coal Co.; Canterbury Coal Company and PennAmerican Coal, LP; The Ohio Valley Transloading Co.; MonValley Transportation Center, Inc.; The American Coal Sales Company; and a number of other coal holding companies. Between 1956 and 1987, he served in most supervisory and executive positions with North American Coal Corp., including as president and CEO. He holds a bachelors degree in mining engineering from Ohio State University and completed Harvard University's Advanced Management Program. He is past president of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc.; Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute; and North Dakota Lignite Council. He is a director of the National Mining Association, the Pennsylvania and the Ohio Coal Associations, and the National Mining Hall of Fame. Mr. Murray has received numerous awards, including the Howard N. Eavenson, Distinguished Member, and the President's Citation Awards from SME.
