Charles W. Arnold is currently serving as Associate Director and Adjunct Professor for the Petroleum Engineering Graduate Program at the University of Houston. Prior to assuming this position in 1988, he had worked for more than 32 years for Exxon Production Research and its predecessor companies at positions ranging from individual researcher to the management level. He holds a B.S. from the University of Oklahoma and an M.S. and Ph.D. from The University of Texas in Austin, all in Chemical Engineering. Dr. Arnold has long been active in the Society of Petroleum Engineers, serving as chairman of the Gulf Coast Section, the national Continuing Education Committee and an ad hoc committee to investigate problems in petroleum engineering education. He has served as an SPE director and an AIME director and Vice President, and is presently chairman of the SPE 25-Year Club Committee. During 1974-1975 Dr Arnold served as an SPE Distinguished Lecturer, speaking on the topic "Enhanced Oil Recovery in a Changing Environment" Other SPE honors include the Distinguished Service Award, the DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal and election to SPE Distinguished Membership. He is also an active member of the American Petroleum Institute, and has served on the API Oil Recovery Technology Domain Committee, Government Liaison Committee, and Recovery Efficiency Committee.
