AIME partnered with the National Mining Association and the American Coal Foundation, as well as SME members from Washington, DC and Pittsburgh to exhibit at DiscoverE's Family Day outreach for K-12 students and their parents.  The annual event attracts about 8,000 attendees to the National Buildling Museum in Washington, DC end February.  About 40 engineering and scientific organizations provided hands-on activities to excite youth about career opportunities in their respective fields with AIME and its partners promoting mining, minerals, metallurgy, materials science, and petroleum.  New this year were a free take-away coloring book on coal and a video promoting sustainability in mining.  The group estimates it reached at least 750 youth and their parents over the 6 1/2 hour event.
