Henry J. Gruy (Deceased 2012)

For distinguished service to the worldwide petroleum industry and the professions of petroleum engineering and geology; and for significant contributions to advances in petroleum engineering technology through publications on oil and gas reserve evaluations, field case histories, and reservoir and geologic studies.

Henry J. Gruy is Chairman of the Board of Gruy Engineering Corporation in Houston, Texas, which he organized in 1950. Mr. Gruy received B.S. and professional degrees in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University. Prior to forming his own company, he was a petroleum engineer and geologist with DeGolyer and MacNaughton and Shell Oil Company.

Mr. Gruy's activities have included testifying before the Federal Power Commission on gas reserves and deliverability; before the Securities and Exchange Commission on oil and gas reserves and values; and before the Atomic Energy Commission about waste disposal. In May 1980, he was appointed to the Advisory Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas by the Governor of Texas. 

Long active in the Society of Petroleum Engineers, Mr. Gruy served as SPE President in 1968, on the Boards of both SPE and AIME, and as an AIME Vice President in 1969. During 1965 -1966, he was SPE Distinguished Lecturer on oil-industry accounting methods. In 1983 Mr. Gruy was awarded the SPE DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal and was named an SPE Distinguished Member. He received the Texas A&M College of Engineering Alumni Honor Award for Distinguished Service in Engineering in 1984. Mr. Gruy is a fellow of the Texas Academy of Science and is a registered professional engineer in Texas.
