OTC Brasil Attendance Exceeds Expectations in Inaugural Event

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (6 October 2011)– Attendance at the 2011 OTC Brasil conference surpassed 10,000 attendees exceeding organizers expectations with more than 400 companies from 23 countries represented in the exhibition.

This inaugural Brazilian event, held 3–6 October in Rio de Janeiro, was organized by the Offshore Technology Conference. The conference welcomed three new supporting organizations, Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Química, Associação Brasileira de Geólogos de Petróleo, and Sociedade Brasileira de Geofísicos. It also gained the support of Rio Negocios, the Rio Business Agency, and attracted speakers from Brazil’s Agencia Nacional do Petroleo (ANP), office of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of the Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), and the US Commerce Department.

Two exhibit halls held 11,500net sq meters of exhibits showcasing the latest in technology from the global offshore E&P community.  Ninety Brazilian companies exhibited showing the support and interest from the region.

“We were extremely pleased with the turnout and success of the conference.  The time was right to bring OTC to Brazil. The region is rapidly gearing up to be one of the world’s largest offshore producers, and gathering the most influential associations and players in the industry will be a catalyst in developing the Brazilian offshore resources,” said Ricardo Juiniti, OTC Brasil 2011 Program Committee co-chairman with OGX.

The event offered a strong technical program with emphasis on safety, the challenges of the pre-salt, and development of the country’s wealth of offshore assets. There were several sessions that focused on developing both technological and human resources. More than 100 young professionals attended a panel discussion Wednesday about career development. The conference discussions continued on Thursday with a session with service providers on how to supply technology to meet the region’s needs.

Plans for the second edition of OTC Brasil are already underway.  The conference will take place 8–10 October 2013, in Rio de Janeiro.
