NAE Fall 2012/Spring 2013 Award Noms due April 2

The National Academy of Engineers is seeking nominations for its Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 awards below. 

The first 3 are $500,000 cash awards and the latter 2 are medals.  Detailed descriptions and nomination instructions can be found at http://www.nae.edu/Activities/Projects/Awards.aspx.

 

Draper:  Engineering accomplishment that has significantly impacted society by improving the quality of life, providing the ability to live freely and comfortably, and/or permitting access to information.

 

Russ:  Recognizes a bioengineering achievement in widespread use that improves the human condition and helps the public better understand and appreciate the contributions of engineers to our health, well-being and quality of life.  An auxiliary purpose is to encourage collaboration between engineering and medical/biological disciplines.

 

Gordon:  Recognizes new modalities and experiments in education that develop effective engineering leaders (e.g. curricular design, teaching methods, and technology-enabled learning) that strengthen students’ capabilities and desire to grow into leadership roles.

 

Founders Award:  Outstanding NAE member or foreign associate who has upheld the ideals and principles of the NAE through professional, educational, and personal achievement and accomplishment.

 

Bueche:  An engineer who has shown dedication in science and technology, as well as active involvement in determining U.S. science and technology policy, promoting technological development, and contributing to the enhancement of the relationship between industries, government, and universities.
