AIME Hal Williams Hardinge Award* in
2007

In recognition for his outstanding lifetime achievements in the field of carbonate rocks and industrial lime; his long term support of the industrial minerals industry; his past Chairmanship of the SME’s Bauxite Conference and the Dreyer Global Koalin Conference; his guiding role as a Past President of the AIME and as a key contributor of chapters to the 6th and 7th Editions of Industrial Minerals and Rocks.

Robert (Bob) Freas is Vice President Marketing for Franklin Industrial Minerals, Nashville, Tn. Prior to joining Franklin in 1985 Mr. Freas was Director of Operations, Limestone Products Corporation, Sparta, N.J., and prior to that Chief Geologist, Dravo Lime Company, Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Freas holds a BS in Geology from Baldwin Wallace College, MS in Geology from Miami University (Ohio), and an MBA from Rutgers University. Mr. Freas SME service includes Chairman Industrial Minerals Division (1986), Vice President Finance (1991-1992), President (1994), and was a Krumb lecturer (2000). Mr. Freas has served two full terms on the AIME Board of Trustees and is the 2004 AIME President, and is Vice Chairman, Board of Directors of The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum. He has authored numerous articles in mining and geology including three chapters in the 6th Edition of Industrial Minerals and Rocks. Most recently he was Chairman of the inaugural Dreyer Conference on Global Kaolin Resources.
