James F. Westcott (SME)

1996

"For outstanding achievements in exploration, mining, and processing of industrial minerals, in particular refractory clays, kaolins and bauxites."

James F. Westcott is a retired vice president of engineering and mining from AP. Green Refractories Company.

He earned his BA and MA in geology from the University of Missouri in 1941 and 1947, respectively.

He retired from AP. Green Refractories Company following a 36 year career that began in 1947 in the position of geologist. Over his career, he became chief geologist, manager of raw materials procurements, regional manager of manufacturing, and group manager of manufacturing before becoming vice president in 1980.

He has been active in a number of professional societies, including the Association of Missouri Geologists, American Institute of Professional Geologists, Mining Industry Council of Missouri, and the Clay Minerals Society.
